Mood Boards for Designers

If you’re working on a design project, a mood board is a great way to present the visual direction of a project or brand separately from the layout of a specific project. They’re a helpful step that helps keep everyone on the same page without a huge time investment.

When do you do the wireframing prototyping between the moodboard and the final layout?

Why do you look for inspiration after you create the theme concept? shouldn’t the inspiration help create the theme concept?

@Ionut We do wireframing (site sketches) either at the same time or after mood boards. We just make sure they’re done before we do PSD comps.

For us, creating the theme concept is about coming up with the keywords or brand metaphor, whatever is appropriate for the project. Then we take those words and concepts to create the visual look and feel. We prefer to have a foundation based on concept that we can build visuals from.

How do you like to work?

I think a mood board will also be a great way to organize things.
